Early Bird or Night Owl?

Isn't it funny how we fall into habits--comfortable habits? Johnny bounces out of bed at 5:00--every morning--without any alarm clock! He's learned to be quiet. The poor man married someone who believes that morning does not happen until the sun comes up and then, comes up slooowly and quietly. Shh.

All of my working life, I climbed out of bed at 5:30 in order to make it to work on time. High school teachers must report early. It is said that you will adapt. Well, I never got used to it.

Now, if left alone, I get up around 7:30 and head for my Mac computer. Johnny makes a fresh pot of coffee and brings me a cup. Ah, yes, I AM spoiled!

It should be no surprise that at night, Johnny is often ready to go to sleep much before I am. He's worn out.

I like to watch Jay Leno.

Which are you? An early bird or a night owl?

Today I'd like to talk about the blue bowl that sits on our dining room table most of the year. When we moved into this new home thirteen years ago, our daughter gave us this floral arrangement that she had custom made. She picked the blue bowl because she knew that the favorite color for both her father and me has always been blue and cobalt blue is our very favorite shade of blue.

She originally had the bowl filled with beige and blue flowers, but I had her change out the blue flowers for more of the white/beige ones. I really like the balls of white with beige squiggles.

You can see the shape of the bowl here as well as the intense cobalt blue color. The bottom is a small clear pedestal.

Have a Happy Blue Monday.

Hello Pastor, I Can't Sleep, and I Have A Problem ...

You gotta love our dedicated pastors.

Attention: Terrorist Cell Groups in United States Churches

Latest news reports are that five terrorist cell groups have been operating in many of our churches. They have been identified as: Bin Sleepin, Bin Arguin, Bin Fightin, Bin Complainin, and the most dangerous,  Bin Missin

Their leader, Osama Bin Lucifer, trained these groups to destroy the Body of Christ. The plan is to come into the church disguised as Christians and to work within the church to discourage, disrupt, and destroy.

However, there have also been reports of a sixth group. A tiny cell known by the name Bin Prayin and is reported as the only effective counter terrorism force in the church. This group appears to be very small. We have noticed that the Bin Prayin cell group has different characteristics than the others. They have Bin Watchin, Bin Waitin, Bin Fastin, and Bin Longin for their Master, Jesus Christ to return.

Which cell group do you belong to?"

Pink Saturday - Cavorting Bunnies

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound hosts Pink Saturday. Pause at her Place to see Plenty of other Pretty Pink items that Precious Pink Participating People are Presenting for your Pleasure.

Last week I showed you my white pitcher, filled with spring flowers given to me by Marilyn, my cousin. Today, I want to show you the bunnies playing at the bottom of the pitcher.

Here's a close-up so that you can see how cute they are with their  Pink ears and their Pink noses, and their Pink feet. They're holding Pink flowers with Pink ribbons.

Cathy at Melodies and Hymnsongs has presented me with the Keativ Blogger award. In the past, when I have received an award that I'd already received, I simply included the giver's name on my sidebar. This award is a repeat, but it has occurred to me that not to show my appreciation is thoughtless. Besides, this award is Pink! Thank you, Cathy, for honoring me.

Have a Happy Pink Saturday!

Check that sidebar for the book giveaways!

Plan to come back for Blue Monday.

Show and Tell Friday - Apples

Kelli from Kelli's House hosts Show and Tell Friday. If you have something special to share, this is the place to show it. It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Go to her place to join in the fun!

I collect apples and today I'd like to show you my kitchen apples. We bought this oven dress at a craft fair this past fall. I spotted the red apples and had to bring it home.

Several years ago, we bought this cookie jar at Cracker Barrel. That store has the cutest things.

A good friend gave me this a few years ago just because she knew that I collect apples. I keep it on top of my refrigerator.

Here's a closer look. It says, "Lord, keep me as the apple of your eye."

These are three of my kitchen apples decorations.

See you for Blue Monday!

Male or Female?

You might not have known this, but a lot of inanimate objects are actually either male or female. Here are some examples I got in an email:

FREEZER BAGS: They are male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.

PHOTOCOPIERS: These are female, because once turned off, it takes a while to warm them up again. They are an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed but can also wreak havoc if you push the wrong buttons.

TIRES: Tires are male because they go bald easily and are often over-inflated.

HOT AIR BALLOONS: Also a male object because to get them to go anywhere you have to light a fire under them.

SPONGES: These are female because they are soft, squeezable, and retain water.

WEB PAGES: Female because they're constantly being looked at and frequently getting hit on.

TRAINS: Definitely male because they always use the same old lines for picking up people.

EGG TIMERS: Egg timers are female because over time all the weight shifts to the bottom.

HAMMERS: Male because in the last 5000 years they've hardly changed at all and are occasionally handy to have around.

THE REMOTE CONTROL: Female. Ha! You probably thought it would be male, but consider this: a man would be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know which buttons to push, he just keeps trying.

Be sure to check out my sidebar.

I have a book giveaway going on.

What's That?

Driving down the road, I saw this and grabbed my camera. As soon as we stopped at a traffic light, I snapped a picture. I started chatting away telling Johnny that I bet the truck was carrying that cross to some church for an Easter pageant.

"But," I said, "it's really not very tall. They should have made it a couple of feet taller. I'll bet they're going to put it up on something higher so that it looks taller."

"Sally," he told me, "that the way the truck is built--it's a tow truck. That attachment is on it to lift the cars it carries."

Free Gardener

Jeanne at Backyard Neighbor took this picture of forsythias that are now in bloom all over the mountainside where she lives. The blooms are so bright and cheerful in her cobalt blue container.

My mom always loved to see the forsythias bloom. I married at an early age (17) and never paid much attention to outdoor things. In Florida, we can't grow forsythias. Although each spring my mom would write about the crocuses and forsythias blooming at her home in Maryland, all I could remember was some purple and some yellow.

Once, when I was visiting her, I noticed a bush that was nothing more than ugly sticks. It had sprawled over Mama's walkway and brushed against my legs.  It looked even worse than this one below. There was no yellow at all  on Mama's ugly bush. See how it spawls all over the place?

As a favor, for a surprise, I trimmed her bush back--waaay back. I cut off every single stick until it was about 12" high. It took a chunk of time; I worked hard on that ugly thing. Later, she told me that her ugly bush of sticks was her prized forsythia bush! It had been full of buds, and she was looking forward to a particularly beautiful spring.

Mama's forsythias did not bloom at all that year and not so nicely the following year, either. In fact, she moved before she ever saw it come back to its former glory. She was a little miffed at me!

I work for free. Would you like for me to come do some pruning at your place?

I want to share a good egg with you today--a blue one!  See it sitting beside the rabbit?

I can hear some of you expert crafters gasping. Oops, I see one fainting. I told you folks that I was not crafty, and now here is proof. The rabbit is a wooden one that I bought many years ago. I spray painted him beige. That's it. Nothing more. No ribbon around his neck, no flowers pasted on his ears, no color for his eyes. Now you believe me, don't you? Not a speck of craftiness in me.

Anyway, the topic today is all about the blue egg. It's a good egg because I did not have to do anything but purchase it.

Look how lacy it is. I really like lacy ceramic things. I always have.

Here's the pretty top. Now, to ease back into the outer edges of blogland, I'll tell you that I bought this good blue egg at Dollar Tree for $1.00.

(Oh, good, I see your smiles and hear your applause.)

Happy Blue Monday!
